In this scratch test video, Dr. Vuong Nayima, D.O., explains the different types of allergy tests that can be performed. Allergy tests can be done for environmental allergens, which includes cats, dogs, dust mites, mold, grass, trees, and weeds, or other allergens, like drugs, food, chemicals, and venom.
The most common form of allergy testing is the scratch test. It is performed on a bare back with plastic applicators that contain allergens of interest. There is mild irritation with testing, but it is extremely safe and is an effective way to diagnose many allergic conditions.
Pulmonary Function Tests, also known as PFTs, provide information about how well you’re breathing and how your lungs are functioning.
